Aleksandr ("Alex") Y. In 2008, Alex received his degree of Juris Doctor from the Pace University School of Law (Magna Cum Laude).  During his time in law school, Alex received several academic scholarships, served as Articles Editor for the Pace Law Review, and provided significant contribution in the writing of "Judges as Mediators: Retaining Neutrality and Avoiding the Trap of Social Engineering," which was published by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. 
Alex regularly handles international matters with complex jurisdictional issues. One such example is a case of first impression involving international law and jurisdiction in family matters which resulted in a favorable jurisdictional disposition. See Zitkene v. Zitkus, 2011 WL 4447229 (Sup. Ct. 2011); affirmed by the Connecticut Appellate Court, Zitkene v. Zitkus, 140 Conn. App. 856 (2013).
Alex’s fluency in both English and Russian helps facilitate communication and transactions with clients from the former Soviet Republics. 
Additionally, Alex coaches the Mock Trial Team at Westhill High School in Stamford, Connecticut.

For 15 years in Stamford, Connecticut, I have seen the hundreds of mistakes immigrants make that get them into trouble.  Early on I handled many deportation cases and came to realize that once an immigrant has made too many mistakes it is frequently impossible to help them.  I also saw that in many ways the laws were stacked against them as year after year as Congress passed harsher rules and some overly zealous Immigration examiners would look for problems rather than solutions.  I decided that I wanted to focus on trying to serve immigrants before they got into trouble, to try to get things off on the right foot and give them the easiest and cleanest chance to get an immigration benefit they might qualify for.  It is frequently a hard sell; something like a doctor telling a patient to get more exercise and eat healthier.  Too many patients will ignore the advice, or not even seek it out, until the inevitable happens and they need expensive surgeries and radical interventions that can at best only ameliorate the damage done.  Nevertheless, I am less interested in the more profitable deportation work trying to pull people out of the river they have fallen into than walking upstream and trying to prevent them from falling in in the first place.  It's who I am.
